ABVP Secures 3 Central Posts in High-Stakes DUSU Elections 2026
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) registered a significant victory in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections for the 2026-27 academic session, winning three out of the four central panel positions. ABVP candidate Yash Dabbas was elected as DUSU President after securing 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena by over 2,000 votes. ABVP also secured the positions of Secretary, won by Riya Chhawdi, and Joint Secretary, won by Lakshay Raj Singh in a closely contested battle.
In a notable turn of events, the Vice President post was bagged by Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who secured the highest overall vote tally of 30,615 votes, defeating ABVP's Ishu Maurya by a wide margin. The Congress-backed National Students' Union of India (NSUI) failed to win any central panel posts this year. The election witnessed a voter turnout of 40.46 percent across various DU colleges, operating under heightened security following strict guidelines issued by the Delhi High Court banning victory processions to prevent campus violence and property damage.
The elections took place against the backdrop of student demonstrations concerning campus infrastructure and accommodation safety in paying guest facilities. Student leaders from the winning panels pledged to prioritize student welfare, affordable housing, and campus security in their upcoming tenure.
