Acer Unveils Project DualPlay Mini Convertible Gaming Handheld at IFA 2026
At the IFA 2026 technology trade show in Berlin, PC manufacturer Acer unveiled a striking new prototype gadget named the Project DualPlay Mini. The device is an 8-inch hybrid that bridges the gap between portable handheld gaming consoles and ultra-compact laptops. Featuring a unique flip-and-swivel hinge mechanism, the gadget allows users to instantly rotate the display to switch between traditional handheld gaming controls and a built-in physical backlit keyboard.
In handheld mode, the Project DualPlay Mini functions like standard portable PC consoles, offering analog thumbsticks, action buttons, and shoulder triggers. However, rotating the display reveals a compact keyboard underneath, tailored for real-time strategy titles, first-person shooters, or quick productivity tasks on the go. The prototype is powered by an Intel processor and utilizes a specialized dual-fan thermal cooling setup adapted from Acer's Predator gaming lineup to manage heat within its compact chassis.
While Acer has not yet confirmed pricing or a commercial release date for the Project DualPlay Mini, the device has drawn significant attention from tech analysts and trade show attendees. As mobile gaming handhelds grow increasingly popular, multi-functional designs like Acer's concept reflect a broader industry trend toward merging dedicated gaming hardware with everyday computing capabilities.
