At 26th SCO Summit in Bishkek, PM Modi Calls for Dismantling Terror Ecosystem and Rejecting Double Standards
Addressing the 26th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a firm message on regional security, counter-terrorism, and trade connectivity. Speaking before regional leaders—including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif—Modi emphasized that peace and stability are indispensable prerequisites for sustainable economic development across Eurasia.
In his plenary address, Prime Minister Modi underscored that terrorism remains one of the greatest threats to global peace. He urged the SCO grouping to confront countries that utilize terrorism as an instrument of state policy and called for the complete dismantling of the terror support ecosystem, including terror financing, radicalization networks, and safe havens. Modi asserted that international efforts against cross-border terrorism must be absolute, rejecting 'double standards' or selective approaches.
Beyond security concerns, the Prime Minister outlined India's vision for the SCO structured around three key pillars: Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity (S-C-O). He highlighted India's commitment to enhancing regional transport corridors while stressing that connectivity projects must respect sovereignty and territorial integrity. Modi also reiterated India's humanitarian support for Afghanistan and advocated for greater cooperation in digital public infrastructure, startup ecosystems, and traditional medicine.
The summit concluded with the adoption of the Bishkek Declaration, which endorsed key Indian proposals on anti-terror cooperation and regional economic integration. Observers note that India's active diplomatic engagement at the SCO underscores its commitment to maintaining strategic autonomy while fostering stability across Eurasia.
