Bengaluru to get nine more fire stations, taking total to 29
The Greater Bengaluru Authority also called for a common policy making agencies responsible for restoring roads they dig up, and GPS-enabled feeder buses near metro stations.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) on Friday approved a proposal to set up nine new fire stations in the city, raising the total to 29.
Chairing the authority's fourth executive committee meeting, Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the sites should be chosen after mapping residential, commercial and high-risk zones.
The meeting also discussed a long-pending master plan for Bengaluru, which the minister said must account for growth beyond GBA limits and future needs for drinking water and sewerage.
Raising concern over roads damaged by repeated digging, he said a uniform policy and standard procedure will make agencies responsible for restoration, cost recovery and penalties. He also asked BMTC to run GPS-enabled feeder buses within 2–3 km of metro stations.
