Biometric Aadhaar Authentication Made Mandatory for Subsidised Domestic LPG Refills from October 1
The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on September 19, 2026, that Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will become mandatory starting October 1, 2026, for booking domestic LPG refills at the regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) with applicable subsidies. Official figures show that approximately 27.43 crore consumers, representing nearly 89.9 percent of total domestic LPG users, have already completed the authentication process and do not need to take further action.
The mandatory biometric authentication is designed to ensure that government subsidies reach genuine and eligible households while eliminating duplicate, inactive, or fake gas connections. Furthermore, linking LPG connections with verified Aadhaar data aims to prevent the illegal diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial purposes, promoting transparency across the energy distribution system.
For consumers who have not yet completed authentication, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have provided multiple accessible options. Verification can be completed at home using mobile applications such as IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL, or HP PAY, directly with delivery personnel during cylinder drop-offs, or at local distributor showrooms. Consumers choosing not to complete BAA can still purchase LPG cylinders at commercial market rates by registering their preference on OMC digital platforms.
