Delhi Airport Operator Files FIR Against 63 Social Media Handles Over Fake Flooding Videos
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Delhi Police against 63 social media handles for allegedly spreading misinformation and fake videos regarding airport waterlogging. According to officials, several online users shared edited, misleading, and older videos from foreign locations—including a 2024 clip showing waterlogging at Dubai Airport—falsely portraying them as current scenes from Delhi's Terminal 3.
The legal action follows heavy monsoon showers in Delhi, which caused localized water accumulation on the arrival forecourt outside Terminal 3 for a brief duration. Airport authorities emphasized that drainage systems quickly cleared the rainwater and flight operations continued without any disruption or delay. DIAL stated that the malicious posts caused unnecessary panic among travelers and damaged the reputation of the country's busiest aviation hub.
Delhi Police have launched an investigation under relevant cybercrime and public mischief provisions to identify the individuals managing the flagged accounts. Authorities warned that strict legal steps will be taken against anyone fabricating media to spread public alarm.
