DFPD and FCI Sign MoU for FY 2026–27 to Modernize Foodgrain Supply Chain and Boost Efficiency
The Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Financial Year 2026–27 in New Delhi, setting up a performance framework to enhance foodgrain management across the country. Established in 1965 under the Food Corporations Act, FCI plays a critical role in maintaining India's food security by procuring, storing, transporting, and distributing essential foodgrains on behalf of the Government of India.
The newly executed MoU introduces measurable, outcome-oriented operational targets aimed at reducing storage losses, maximizing warehouse capacity utilization, and streamlining logistics. Under the framework, business process digitisation is being prioritized through platforms such as the Depot Darpan Portal, which provides real-time web monitoring and performance assessment of individual storage depots across the nation. Furthermore, the agreement places a strong focus on employee capacity building and skill development initiatives to seamlessly integrate modern Information Technology solutions into day-to-day operations. Given the massive public funds involved in national food subsidy programs, this initiative aims to ensure transparency, operational accountability, and resource optimization across the nation's agricultural supply chain.
