DGFT Launches Open API Facility on Trade Connect e-Platform for Fast-Track Exporter Certificates
To simplify export compliance and boost paperless trade operations, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched an Open Application Programming Interface (API) facility on its Trade Connect e-Platform on September 7, 2026. The technical integration allows registered exporters to link their internal Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and accounting software directly with the DGFT's Certificate of Origin (CoO) portal.
Previously, exporters were required to manually enter shipment data into the government portal, leading to redundant administrative work and potential data entry errors. The newly deployed Open API framework features three specialized APIs—for secure authentication, file application submission, and real-time authenticity verification. Supporting both Preferential Certificates of Origin under Free Trade Agreements and Non-Preferential certificates for general customs clearance, the automated system enables seamless digital data transfer. Officials noted that the initiative will significantly lower operational latency, enhance trade transparency, and empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across India to compete more effectively in global markets.
