Egyptian Foreign Minister Meets EU Ambassadors to Discuss Regional Peace and Sudan Conflict
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with accredited ambassadors from European Union member states in Cairo on September 10, 2026, to discuss pressing international developments and regional security priorities. The consultations reflect the deepening strategic partnership established between Egypt and the EU, focusing on economic cooperation, maritime security, and diplomatic mediation in regional crises.
During the session, Foreign Minister Abdelatty commended recent joint declarations by several EU nations supporting a two-state solution and advocating bans on products from illegal Israeli settlements. Reaffirming Cairo's stance, Abdelatty reiterated total rejection of territorial annexation and settlement policies in Palestine, calling for immediate international backing to implement Gaza peace and recovery initiatives. He emphasized the necessity of preserving the historic status quo at holy sites in Jerusalem.
Turning to North Africa, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's sustained diplomatic efforts to halt the civil war in neighboring Sudan. He reaffirmed that any threat to Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity represents a critical red line for Egyptian national security. The meeting underscores Egypt's vital role as a diplomatic bridge between Europe and the Middle East in navigating regional instability.
