Festive Season Set to Drive 2.5 Lakh Seasonal and Gig Jobs Across India: Report
India's festive season is projected to generate between 2,00,000 and 2,50,000 seasonal and gig jobs during the July–December period of 2026, as companies gear up to meet surging consumer demand. According to a workforce trend report released on September 19, 2026, by global digital talent solutions provider NLB Services, festive hiring is expected to expand by 15% to 20% compared to previous years across key consumer-facing sectors.
The study indicates that e-commerce, quick commerce, retail, logistics, supply chain management, hospitality, travel, and consumer services are driving the recruitment push. Operational functions, including last-mile delivery, warehousing, inventory management, field operations, and customer support, account for the largest share of temporary employment opportunities. Additionally, demand for specialized new-age operational roles, such as dark-store inventory controllers, returns management experts, and automated fulfillment operators, is set to rise by up to 20%.
Crucially, the hiring boom is broadening beyond major metro hubs. Tier-II and Tier-III cities are expected to contribute approximately 45% of total festive hiring demand, with recruitment in these non-metropolitan regions projected to grow at a pace of 25% to 30%. Industry analysts note that corporate employers are initiating workforce planning nearly 12 to 14 weeks ahead of peak festivities, transforming seasonal recruitment into a strategic talent acquisition mechanism.
