Garmin Unveils Flagship fēnix 9 Smartwatch Series with Ultra-Bright Screens and Satellite Features
Garmin has officially introduced its flagship multisport GPS smartwatch lineup, launching the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro. Designed for high-performance athletes and outdoor adventurers, the new series introduces significant hardware and software upgrades, including a full titanium watch case on the Pro models and an AMOLED display reaching up to 3,000 nits of brightness—twice as bright as its predecessor.
The fēnix 9 family brings several performance improvements under the hood. Storage has been doubled to 64GB, paired with 50 percent more RAM, allowing map panning speeds to increase by up to 30 percent and route calculation speeds to improve by 40 percent. For endurance users and divers, the smartwatches feature leakproof buttons and carry a 40-meter dive rating. Furthermore, all fēnix 9 Pro sizes now integrate built-in inReach satellite technology alongside LTE connectivity, enabling text messaging, voice calls, and emergency SOS alerts directly from the wrist without requiring a phone nearby.
On the software front, Garmin introduced "Garmin Epic," a new Connect app feature that groups multi-day or multi-activity excursions into unified, shareable visual summaries. Enhanced stamina metrics and training tools have also been added to assist users in managing real-time endurance. Importantly, Garmin confirmed that many software features will be backported to previous hardware generations, including the fēnix 8 and Forerunner series. Orders for the new wearables opened on August 28, with prices starting at $999.99 for the standard fēnix 9 and $1,099.99 for the Pro models.
