Gartner Forecasts Global AI Spending to Reach $2.7 Trillion in 2026 Driven by Infrastructure and Software
Global spending on artificial intelligence technologies is set to jump by 49.5 percent in 2026, reaching an estimated $2.7 trillion, according to a report released by technology research firm Gartner. The surge represents one of the fastest annual growth rates recorded for the technology sector, driven primarily by hyper-scale investments in data centers, AI-optimized hardware, and enterprise software.
According to Gartner's analysis, AI infrastructure constitutes the largest segment of overall expenditure, projected to reach over $1.48 trillion this year. Tech giants and cloud service providers are pouring vast sums into high-performance servers, specialized semiconductors, and high-speed networking fabric to satisfy growing processing demands. Beyond physical infrastructure, spending on AI software and services is also accelerating as enterprise vendors embed agentic AI systems—autonomous software agents capable of executing complex workflows—into existing software platforms.
The report highlights a shift in corporate AI adoption. While generative AI models had previously generated high expectations, organizations are now focusing on practical, domain-specific AI applications that deliver measurable productivity gains. Analysts note that businesses are prioritizing cost governance and task efficiency as AI operational expenses increase. The rapid expansion of AI spending highlights how deep-tech infrastructure has become a central priority for global enterprise strategy.
