GST collections jump 22.9% to Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October, second-highest ever
Festive demand lifted domestic collections by 15.8%, while GST on imports surged 42.2%; April 2026 still holds the record at Rs 2.42 lakh crore.
Gross goods and services tax (GST) collections rose 22.9% year-on-year to Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October, the second-highest monthly collection on record, official data released on Sunday showed. The highest remains April 2026, at Rs 2.42 lakh crore.
GST from imports surged 42.2% to Rs 72,246 crore, while collections from domestic sales grew 15.8% to Rs 1.59 lakh crore, driven by strong festive demand.
Net GST revenue after refunds stood at Rs 2.03 lakh crore, up 25.6%. Net revenue from imports grew 56.2% to Rs 58,319 crore.
Tax experts said the figures carry extra weight because October 2025 was the first full month to reflect the GST 2.0 rate cuts, and that the rise in domestic collections signals rising consumption and broad-based economic growth.
