India and Nepal Review Trade, Transit and Connectivity at Inter-Governmental Meeting
The India-Nepal Inter-Governmental Sub-Committee (IGSC) on Trade, Transit, and Cooperation to Control Unauthorized Trade met at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi on September 16–17, 2026. The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, while Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Buddha Bahadur Gurung led the Nepali delegation. The IGSC is a critical bilateral mechanism established to evaluate trade policies, remove non-tariff barriers, and streamline transit logistics between the two neighboring countries.
During the two-day deliberations, both sides discussed expanding market access for agricultural products, dairy items, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and AYUSH products. Measures to simplify customs clearance through pre-arrival information exchange, electronic verification of Certificates of Origin, and full digital integration were evaluated. In terms of transit connectivity, officials reviewed the status of rail and road networks, freight movement, Integrated Check Posts, and land port infrastructure. Both countries emphasized strengthening compliance mechanisms to prevent unauthorized trade while facilitating legitimate cross-border commerce.
