India and Thailand Hold Bilateral Trade Talks in New Delhi to Fast-Track ASEAN Agreement Review
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held high-level bilateral discussions with Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Suphajee Suthumpun, at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi. The strategic trade meeting aimed to deepen economic ties, address structural trade imbalances, and promote balanced, sustainable bilateral trade.
A major focus of the talks was the ongoing review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA). Both ministers highlighted the need for a time-bound review through the India-Thailand Joint Trade Committee to make the agreement more trade-facilitative, user-friendly, and mutually beneficial. India has been seeking enhanced market access in Thailand to narrow its trade deficit, which exceeded $10.8 billion in 2025.
During the engagements, Ministers Goyal and Suthumpun addressed a business delegation from Thailand representing sectors including space technology, cold-chain logistics, food processing, health, and innovation. The two nations agreed to expand government-to-business and business-to-business linkages, foster joint investments, and strengthen supply chain resilience. Thailand remains India's third-largest trading partner within the ASEAN region.
