India Hosts BRICS Chief Justices' Forum in New Delhi to Strengthen Global Judicial Cooperation
The Supreme Court of India is hosting the three-day BRICS Chief Justices' Forum in New Delhi from September 4 to 6, 2026. The high-level judicial summit brings together Chief Justices, Supreme Court Presidents, and senior legal representatives from BRICS member nations and partner countries to address emerging challenges in justice delivery and foster cross-border legal cooperation.
Inaugurating the event, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant held a series of bilateral meetings with heads of judicial delegations from participating countries, including Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Iran, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The discussions focused on enhancing institutional cooperation through memoranda of understanding, modernizing legal frameworks, and adopting advanced technologies in court administration.
Key themes on the forum's agenda include international commercial mediation, cross-border enforcement of arbitral awards, and the integration of artificial intelligence in judicial processes. CJI Surya Kant highlighted the critical role of judiciaries in providing stable commercial dispute resolution mechanisms to build foreign investor confidence. He also proposed establishing a unified BRICS platform for arbitration and mediation to streamline commercial dispute handling.
The gathering underscores India's growing leadership in global judicial governance and international law. By facilitating dialogue on legal technology, sustainable development, and expeditious judicial procedures, the summit aims to strengthen legal harmonization and deepen ties among global judicial institutions.
