Indian Athletics Final Series 2026 Concludes in Delhi with National Record and Top Asian Games Warm-ups
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) successfully conducted the Indian Athletics Final Series 2026 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, serving as a high-stakes invitational showcase and final selection assessment ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The single-day track and field competition featured top national sprinters, distance runners, and field specialists.
The headline highlight came in the field events, where Delhi's Nirbhay Choudhary shattered a decade-old National Record in the men's hammer throw to take the gold medal. In the track section, Maharashtra's Harita Bhadra produced a personal-best dash of 11.22 seconds to claim the women's 100m title, narrowly edging Tamil Nadu's Continental Tour winner Abinaya Rajarajan (11.31s). Animesh Kujur won the men's 100m title, while long jumper Mohd. Sazid Atta breached the 8-metre barrier and Tajinderpal Singh Toor secured the shot put title.
Asian Games-bound distance runners, including steeplechaser Avinash Sable (winning in 8:32.39) and Parul Chaudhary, utilized the championship to test their race fitness under competitive conditions. The event concluded with the AFI selection committee reviewing final performances to finalize India's traveling athletics contingent for Japan.
