Indian Women's Cricket Team Reclaims Asia Cup Title, Refuses Trophy From ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi
The Indian women's cricket team clinched a record-extending eighth Women's Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Opening batter Shafali Verma scored a brisk 68 while vice-captain Smriti Mandhana contributed 59 to post a formidable total of 183 for five. In response, Sri Lanka was restricted to 111 for nine, with Indian bowlers delivering a disciplined performance.
However, the post-match presentation ceremony turned controversial when the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side refused to accept the winner's trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The decision reflects the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) ongoing stance regarding diplomatic tensions with Pakistan. Head coach Amol Muzumdar supported the team's position, stating that winning the championship on the field was what mattered most to the players and that the team stands by the BCCI's posture. The incident has drawn widespread attention across international sports media.
