India’s IT Hiring Demand Rebounds to 18-Month High Led by AI and Digital Skills
India’s technology hiring landscape is demonstrating robust signs of recovery, with active recruitment demand in the IT services sector hitting an 18-month high. According to comprehensive industry data from specialized staffing firm Xpheno, active job openings across IT services companies reached 57,000 in September 2026. This represents the strongest monthly hiring tally recorded since February 2025, signaling renewed enterprise spending after several quarters of cautious workforce management.
The broader technology employment ecosystem—which includes Global Capability Centres (GCCs), software product firms, deep-tech startups, and IT roles within non-tech enterprises—has registered approximately 117,000 active positions. Tech industry roles now account for 51 percent of total active talent demand in India.
Industry experts note that while recruitment activity is picking up substantially, hiring strategies have shifted toward specialized expertise. Employer demand is heavily concentrated in artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and advanced data analytics. In fact, software development job postings requiring AI capabilities surged by 138 percent over the past two years. Furthermore, mid-level and senior professionals make up nearly 60 percent of current open requisitions, reflecting a clear priority among technology firms to acquire execution-ready leaders capable of driving complex digital and AI integration projects. The trend highlights a broader structural transformation in India's tech sector from traditional back-office support to high-value AI solutions.
