Kannada Film Industry Rallies Behind Yash as 'Toxic' Faces Polarizing Reviews and Box Office Strain
Following the worldwide release of superstar Yash’s highly anticipated action-thriller 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' on August 26, 2026, the Kannada film industry has united to voice support for the actor amid a polarizing public response and a sharp mid-week drop in box office collections. Despite registering a massive opening weekend crossing ₹200 crore in net domestic earnings, the film met with mixed to critical reviews concerning its unconventional narrative style and pacing, leading to a noticeable decline in weekday ticket sales.
In response to the growing criticism online and in trade circles, prominent Sandalwood figures—including National Award winner Rishab Shetty, Kiccha Sudeep, and Upendra—publicly defended the film and commended Yash’s willingness to experiment with a daring global-scale project. In a statement posted on social media, Rishab Shetty praised Yash's conviction, noting that attempting an unconventional storyline does not make a film wrong and applauding his commitment to elevating Kannada cinema on the world stage. Similarly, Sudeep commended Yash's courage to step out of comfortable commercial tropes after the massive success of the 'K.G.F' franchise.
Industry trade analysts and producers highlighted that the collective backing reflects a broader solidarity within Sandalwood. While 'Toxic' faced high commercial expectations, filmmakers emphasized that taking creative risks remains essential for the growth and international ambition of the Indian film industry.
