Kannada must help shape technology, not just use it: UT Khader at Mangaluru Rajyotsava
The minister called for digitising Kannada's dialects and folk knowledge, said the government may mark September 18 as Tulu Day, and announced Rs 400 crore for Mangaluru's roads.
District In-charge Minister UT Khader called for bringing Kannada into artificial intelligence, digital technology and modern education, in his Rajyotsava address at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru on Sunday.
"Kannada should not merely be a language that uses technology; it must become a language that contributes to technological development," he said, urging that the language's vocabulary, dialects, folk knowledge and literature be preserved in digital form and that more scientific and technical content be created in Kannada.
Khader noted that Tulu has been recognised as an officially declared second language in the state, and said the government will consider marking September 18 as 'Tulu Day', after the cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru. He also announced a special grant of Rs 400 crore to turn damaged roads in Mangaluru City Corporation limits into cement concrete roads.
Under the World Bank-assisted K-SHORE project against coastal plastic pollution, Rs 22.40 crore has been sanctioned in the first phase for material recovery facilities, vehicles and floating trash barriers. As many as 119 individuals and 54 associations were honoured at the event.
