Kareena Kapoor Slams Bollywood's 'Herd Mentality' After Success of 'Animal'
Acclaimed Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has spoken out against what she described as the persistent "herd mentality" within the Hindi film industry. Speaking during a candid town hall discussion ahead of the release of her upcoming crime drama 'Daayra', the actor highlighted how filmmakers frequently rush to copy successful formulas rather than taking creative risks with original narratives.
To illustrate her point, Kareena cited the massive commercial success of Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 2023 blockbuster 'Animal', which starred her cousin Ranbir Kapoor. She noted that as soon as a movie featuring heavy action and violence becomes a hit at the box office, the broader industry impulsively shifts toward making similar violent films under the belief that it guarantees financial returns. "Animal worked, so now everyone is like, let us all make violent films," she remarked, criticizing the industry's trend-chasing approach.
Kareena emphasized that today's audiences, particularly younger moviegoers, are far more discerning and thoughtful than film executives often assume. She pointed out that audiences are no longer drawn solely to genre labels or star-driven commercial tropes and expect well-crafted, thought-provoking cinema. Praising industries like Malayalam cinema for empowering writers and prioritizing script-driven projects, she expressed confidence that evolving audience demand will ultimately force Bollywood to move beyond repetitive box-office trends and invest in meaningful storytelling.
