Karnataka Constitutes 5-Member Cabinet Sub-Committee to Reform Education and Resolve Student Issues
In a significant policy measure aimed at public administration and education governance, the Karnataka government has constituted a five-member Cabinet sub-committee to address pressing student issues and recommend structural reforms. The decision follows an official memorandum issued by the Karnataka Government Secretariat pursuant to a Cabinet decision chaired by state leadership in Bengaluru. Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader has been appointed as chairperson of the high-level panel. The other members include Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy, Home and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, and School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa.
The sub-committee has been mandated to examine six crucial areas affecting youth and students. A key priority is safeguarding the integrity of state recruitment and academic examinations by preventing question paper leaks and malpractices, alongside establishing a fixed, time-bound examination calendar. Furthermore, the panel will study regulatory frameworks to cap fees charged by private educational institutions and coaching centers to reduce financial strain on families. The committee is also tasked with reviewing public educational infrastructure, filling teacher vacancies, improving student mental health support systems, and aligning curricula with emerging employment and skilling opportunities. The sub-committee will consult students, parents, and academic experts before submitting its final recommendations within one month.
