Karnataka Forms Cabinet Sub-Committee to Address Student Issues and Education Reforms
The Karnataka government has established a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee to address growing student concerns and recommend systemic reforms in the state's education system. Chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader, the high-level panel comprises Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy, Home Minister Priyank Kharge, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, and School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa. The committee was constituted following a cabinet decision aimed at understanding student grievances and creating a transparent, student-centric academic environment.
The terms of reference for the sub-committee cover six key areas: maintaining the integrity of public examinations, preventing question paper leaks, regulating fees at private institutions and coaching centers, improving infrastructure in public schools and colleges, aligning curricula with emerging market demands, and establishing robust mental health support systems for students. Special focus is being placed on suicide prevention measures in residential institutions and coaching hubs across the state. The panel has been instructed to consult extensively with students, parents, teachers, and administrative officials before submitting its official recommendation report within a one-month timeframe.
