Karnataka Government Constitutes Cabinet Sub-Committee to Drive Education Reforms
The Karnataka state government has constituted a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee to address pressingly critical challenges in the state's education sector and formulate broad-based reforms. The panel is chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader, with Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy, Home Minister Priyank Kharge, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, and School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa serving as key members. An official memorandum issued by the Government Secretariat outlined the terms of reference following a state cabinet decision.
The sub-committee has been mandated to review six key domains within one month. A major mandate includes preserving examination and recruitment integrity by implementing strict mechanisms to curb question paper leaks, eliminate malpractice, and establish a fixed, time-bound academic and recruitment calendar. Additionally, the panel will examine fee structures in private educational institutions and coaching centres to alleviate the mounting financial strain on families. Other key responsibilities involve evaluating infrastructure deficits in government schools, pre-university colleges, and universities, addressing teacher vacancies, and aligning academic curricula with market-driven employability and apprenticeships. Notably, the committee is also tasked with establishing student mental health support systems and suicide prevention protocols in educational hubs and hostels across Karnataka.
