Karnataka needs two lakh acres of industrial land by 2047, says state urbanisation plan
The Karnataka State Regional Urbanisation Plan-2047 counts 15 major industrial clusters today and 27 new parks planned, with about 1.25 lakh acres still to be acquired.
Karnataka will have to expand its industrial clusters significantly to create jobs and sustain growth over the next two decades, according to the Karnataka State Regional Urbanisation Plan-2047.
The state has 15 major industrial clusters, and 27 new industrial parks are planned. The plan estimates that about two lakh acres of KIADB land will be needed by 2047, of which roughly 1.25 lakh acres still has to be acquired.
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who released the report last week, said people move to cities mainly for jobs and better education, and that creating employment at the regional level is key to slowing that migration.
The new parks will be spread across the state, especially around seven growth nodes identified outside Bengaluru, under the 'Udyama Karnataka' initiative. Parks for aerospace and defence, fisheries and textiles are among those that could be announced soon.
