The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, inaugurated a two-day National Conference on Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) in Mumbai, according to an official press release issued by the Press Information Bureau. Chaired by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya alongside Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, the conference brought together state labour ministers, welfare board representatives, and senior officials to review social security mechanisms for construction workers.
Highlighting that construction workers represent a vital pillar of national economic development, Union Minister Mandaviya urged state governments to conduct detailed assessments of construction cess fund utilization, address existing implementation bottlenecks, and enhance worker registration processes. The conference reviewed digital governance initiatives including the State BOCW Digital Labour Chowk, online cess collection portals, and facilitation centers. Deliberations also focused on aligning worker welfare programs with the newly updated Labour Codes, establishing formal pathways for international labour mobility, and implementing skill training initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.
