Microsoft Overhauls Financial Structure to Detail Azure Revenue and AI Growth
Microsoft Corporation announced a significant overhaul of its corporate financial reporting structure, moving from three operational segments down to two: "Agents and Infra" and "Devices and Consumer." Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella, the tech giant stated that the reorganization better reflects how artificial intelligence is transforming its core business models and blurring traditional product boundaries.
As part of this transition, Microsoft will begin disclosing exact dollar revenue figures for its Azure cloud platform on a quarterly basis, a major shift from its long-standing practice of reporting only growth percentage rates. Under the redefined "Agents and Infra" segment, Azure is narrowed down to focus purely on consumption-based platform and cloud infrastructure services, while developer tools like GitHub and security software such as Security Copilot have been reclassified.
Restated figures show Azure reached $29.42 billion in revenue for the quarter ending June 2026, marking a 42% growth rate and accounting for roughly one-third of Microsoft's total top-line revenue. The increased transparency brings Microsoft into direct financial alignment with cloud market rivals Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, providing institutional investors and market analysts with clearer metrics to evaluate the monetary returns on the company's massive artificial intelligence capital expenditures.
