'Mirzapur: The Movie' Hits Theatres On September 4 As Hit OTT Franchise Makes Big-Screen Debut
The iconic Indian crime drama series Mirzapur has officially transitioned from the small screen to a wide theatrical release. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, Mirzapur: The Movie is scheduled for release on September 4, 2026. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film brings back fan-favorite characters, including Pankaj Tripathi as Akhandanand "Kaleen Bhaiya" Tripathi, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Divyenndu returning as Munna Bhaiya.
Unlike a continuation of the show's third season, the movie functions as an unexplored standalone chapter set in Purvanchal in 2018, positioned between the sixth and seventh episodes of Season 1. This timeline allows the creators to resurrect characters killed off in subsequent seasons, including Munna Bhaiya and Bablu Pandit (played by Jitendra Kumar, taking over from Vikrant Massey). The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) granted the movie an 'A' rating, with a runtime of 197 minutes (3 hours and 17 minutes). Advance ticket sales opened across major ticketing platforms in the final days of August, drawing huge interest from audiences eager to experience Purvanchal's intense underworld power struggle on the big screen.
