NCERT Marks 66th Foundation Day: Education Minister Launches Robotics Lab, Announces New Textbooks
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) marked its 66th Foundation Day on September 1, 2026, in New Delhi, announcing key technological and academic initiatives aimed at modernizing school education in India. Union Minister for Education Pralhad Joshi addressed the foundation ceremony, emphasizing that NCERT must lead the nation's efforts toward an innovative, inclusive, and future-ready educational system aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
To support digital and multi-lingual learning, the Ministry inaugurated a newly established Robotics Learning Centre, a Translation Lab under the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme, and an upgraded high-definition Television Studio. The Robotics Learning Centre, developed through a public-private partnership with ZS and Robotex India, will provide hands-on training for students from Grades 6 to 12 in artificial intelligence, robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), and space technology. Digital modules will be made accessible nationwide via platforms like DIKSHA and PM e-VIDYA.
Furthermore, Minister Pralhad Joshi revealed that NCERT is developing revised textbooks for senior classes in mission mode, following the rollout of new learning materials for foundational and middle school stages. Textbooks are also being prepared across 22 Indian languages to strengthen mother-tongue education. The event highlights India's ongoing structural reform in school education, bridging experiential technology learning with indigenous language support to foster holistic student development across the country.
