NIXI and APNIC Sign Strategic Pact at APNIC 62 in Mumbai to Boost Internet Infrastructure and Routing Security
The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 8, 2026, during the APNIC 62 conference held in Mumbai. The international agreement aims to significantly bolster the security, resilience, and operational efficiency of India's rapidly expanding internet infrastructure.
The MoU was formally signed by NIXI Chief Executive Officer Dr. Devesh Tyagi and APNIC Director General Jia Rong Low, in the presence of Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Under the terms of the agreement, NIXI and APNIC will collaborate on accelerating the adoption of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) among network operators and enterprises throughout India. A central highlight of the partnership is the deployment of a domestic APNIC RPKI repository mirror in India managed by NIXI.
Hosting a domestic RPKI mirror will allow Indian internet service providers and network operators to validate IP address ownership locally, substantially reducing latency and protecting national traffic against BGP route hijacking and misconfigurations. Additionally, the partnership includes comprehensive technical capacity building, Train-the-Trainer initiatives, and the setup of specialized laboratory infrastructure. Officials emphasized that with India already leading global IPv6 deployment, this collaboration establishes vital safeguards for the country's sovereign digital public infrastructure.
