PM Modi Addresses Paris International Space Summit, Emphasises Global Cooperation and Sustainability
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural International Space Summit held in Paris, France, via video conference on September 10, 2026. Invited by French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Modi called upon global space-faring nations to choose cooperation over confrontation, sustainability over short-term gain, and inclusion over exclusion in outer space activities. Highlighting that space technologies shape daily life on Earth through weather forecasting, disaster management, and navigation, he stressed that the promise of space is infinite and requires collective responsibility.
Connecting India's philosophical tradition of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family) with cosmic exploration, PM Modi highlighted the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He noted that ISRO's frugal and cost-effective missions have earned global trust, having launched over 430 satellites for 34 nations. The Prime Minister invited France and international partners to join as co-travellers in India's next-generation space ventures. Reaffirming India's ambitious space roadmap, Modi confirmed plans to deploy the Bharatiya Antariksha Station by 2035 and execute a crewed lunar landing by 2040.
The summit gathered leaders, space agency chiefs, and scientists from nearly 120 countries to address emerging challenges, including crowded orbital paths and space debris management. Modi reiterated India's commitment to a safe, secure, and sustainable space domain governed by international law, emphasizing that scientific data should serve the common global good with complete transparency.
