PM Vishwakarma Scheme Completes Three Years with Over 30 Lakh Registered Traditional Artisans
Marking three years of empowering traditional craftsmen and artisans, the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) celebrated the third anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in Kolkata, West Bengal. Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi announced that more than 30 lakh artisans engaged in 18 traditional trades across the nation have enrolled under the initiative since its launch in September 2023.
Out of the total registered beneficiaries, nearly 24.50 lakh artisans have completed basic skill training to upgrade their craft using modern techniques and safety standards. The central scheme offers end-to-end support including formal skill verification, modern toolkits valued up to ₹15,000, collateral-free credit assistance up to ₹3 lakh at subsidized interest rates, and dedicated digital transaction incentives.
Speaking at the event, officials underscored that the onboarding of states like West Bengal in early 2026 has further expanded the scheme’s reach to grassroots craftspeople, including carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, and masons. An exhibition showcasing traditional handicrafts was organized alongside the anniversary event, highlighting how institutional financial linkages and skill development are driving self-reliance and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage.
