Samsung and Verizon Announce Breakthrough 6G Sensing Trial Over Commercial Virtualized Network
In a newsroom release published on Samsung's official press platform, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and US telecom giant Verizon announced the successful completion of an Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) field trial over a live virtualized network. Conducted during a major international sports fan gathering in Dallas, Texas, the milestone represents one of the telecom industry's first practical implementations of AI-native 6G spatial sensing technology.
The trial demonstrated how next-generation mobile networks can extend beyond data transmission to act as radar-like environmental sensors. Utilizing Samsung's Network in a Server (NIS) platform alongside commercial vRAN and vCore infrastructure, the system analyzed wireless signal variations to generate real-time crowd movement and density heatmaps without requiring extra dedicated sensing hardware or specialized cameras. Telecom analysts highlight that ISAC is slated to become a cornerstone of 6G standards, enabling operators to improve network capacity dynamically, monitor public safety, and manage venue crowds during large events. The announcement underscores the growing push toward software-driven, AI-integrated infrastructure as global carriers prepare for future 6G commercial deployments.
