Samsung Launches High-Speed P9 and P7 USB4 Portable SSDs with Speeds Up to 4,000 MB/s
Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest generation of portable external storage gadgets, the Portable SSD P9 and Portable SSD P7, equipped with next-generation USB4 connectivity. Officially introduced during Gamescom 2026 and released for purchase on August 31, 2026, the new P Series represents a major leap forward from the company's previous T-series drives. The new lineup doubles data transfer speeds and caters to the surging demands of AI-driven workflows, high-resolution media, and heavy gaming files.
The flagship Portable SSD P9 achieves sequential read speeds of up to 4,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 3,800 MB/s over a USB4 40Gbps interface. Designed specifically for professional videographers, photographers, and content creators, the drive supports sustained high-throughput tasks, including direct 12K RAW video recording without dropping frames. Additionally, Samsung claims the P9 is the world's first 8TB USB4 portable SSD capable of maintaining top-tier 4,000 MB/s transfer rates.
Alongside the high-end P9, Samsung introduced the Portable SSD P7, aimed at everyday consumers, mobile workers, and gamers seeking fast and rugged storage. Encased in a durable chassis drop-tested up to two meters, the P7 offers broad plug-and-play compatibility across laptops, smartphones, cameras, and gaming consoles. Available in capacities ranging from 1TB to 8TB, the P Series provides users with reliable, portable data management in an era dominated by massive file sizes.
