World champion para-archer Sheetal Devi secured the gold medal in the women's compound event as India concluded its campaign at the World Archery Para Series 2026 Stage 3 in Ahmedabad on September 9, 2026. The five-day tournament, held at the Sabarmati Riverfront, saw India deliver an impressive overall performance, finishing with 15 medals—four gold, three silver, and eight bronze.
In a thrilling women's compound final, 19-year-old Sheetal Devi faced Kazakhstan's Aizada Seidan. After the main match ended tied at 144-144, the contest moved into a decisive shoot-off. Sheetal shot a perfect 10 with her final arrow, while Seidan managed a 9, handing the Indian star her first individual World Archery Para Series title. Earlier in the competition, Sheetal created a world record alongside Rakesh Kumar in the compound mixed team qualification with a score of 1,400 points.
India also achieved success in team events, with the men's compound and recurve teams securing top honors. Inaugurated virtually by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on September 4, the tournament marked the first time India hosted a leg of the prestigious World Archery Para Series. The strong performance highlights India's growing stature in international para-sports as athletes prepare for upcoming major continental championships.
