Supreme Court allows green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR on November 7 and 8 at fixed hours
Crackers may be burst from 6–7 am and 8–10 pm on the two days around Diwali; the full ban returns on November 9, and no bursting near hospitals or silence zones.
Days ahead of Diwali, the Supreme Court has allowed green firecrackers to be burst in Delhi-NCR from 6 to 7 am and from 8 to 10 pm on November 7 and 8. Diwali falls on November 8 this year.
A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale said no fireworks may be burst within 300 metres of hospitals, nursing homes, health centres, old-age homes and notified silence zones. The complete ban will be restored from November 9, 2026.
Only manufacturers with valid CSIR-NEERI and PESO certification may make green crackers listed on the CSIR-NEERI website, and only between November 2 and 6. Firecrackers joined in series ('ladis') and garlands may not be made or sold, and crackers containing barium remain banned.
The order, dated October 29 and made available on Monday, asks Delhi-NCR authorities to stop the flow of illegal and conventional firecrackers.
