Tamil Nadu Launches ₹50 Crore Deep-Tech and AI Fund to Boost Startup Ecosystem
The Tamil Nadu government has announced a significant push for its deep-tech and artificial intelligence ecosystem with the introduction of new state initiatives. A cornerstone of these measures is the proposed "Vetri Tamil Nadu Deep-Tech Innovation Fund," established through the Tamil Nadu Technology Hub (iTNT Hub), with an initial corpus of ₹50 crore. This fund is specifically designed to bolster deep-tech startups, researchers, innovators, and PhD scholars actively engaged in developing advanced technologies. Key areas identified for support include artificial intelligence and machine learning, large and small language models, advanced materials, semiconductors, and robotics. In a move aimed at promoting inclusive entrepreneurship, the government has also earmarked 25% of the fund's allocation for founders belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. These announcements, made in the State Legislative Assembly by Minister Kumar R, highlight the state's commitment to building robust technology infrastructure, fostering public-private partnerships, and deploying specialized AI tools across various sectors. This initiative is expected to accelerate innovation and create new opportunities within Tamil Nadu's rapidly evolving tech landscape. The broader plan also includes establishing AI centers of excellence, a state-owned GPU computing cluster, and a new Super App for government services.
