Union Government Details ₹40,000 Crore Electronics Component Scheme to Build Domestic Supply Chain
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) issued an official press statement and backgrounder on September 17, 2026, highlighting the progress and strategic roadmap of the Union Government's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). Originally launched with an outlay of ₹22,919 crore, the scheme's budget allocation has been increased to ₹40,000 crore in the latest Union Budget to rapidly expand domestic electronics supply chain infrastructure.
According to the official release, India's electronics production surged from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to ₹13.11 lakh crore in 2025-26, while exports expanded to ₹4.24 lakh crore. Despite this growth, critical components including printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera and display modules, lithium-ion cells, and rare-earth magnets remain heavily import-dependent. ECMS aims to bridge this gap by supporting domestic sub-assembly manufacturing, capital goods production, and supply-chain resilience. By strengthening component ecosystems alongside the Semicon 2.0 initiative, India targets a $500 billion domestic electronics manufacturing output and $150 billion in exports by 2030.
