Union Government Highlights Impact of PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana as Scheme Completes 7 Years
The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, through an official Press Information Bureau (PIB) release issued on September 11, 2026, highlighted the seven-year journey of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KMY). Launched on September 12, 2019, the voluntary and contributory pension scheme was established to provide long-term social security and financial independence to landholding small and marginal farmers across the country.
Under the scheme's guidelines, eligible farmers aged between 18 and 40 contribute a monthly amount ranging from ₹55 to ₹200, which is matched equally by the Central Government. Upon attaining 60 years of age, beneficiaries receive a guaranteed minimum monthly pension of ₹3,000. Official data published in the release reveals that over 24.96 lakh farmers have enrolled in the scheme nationwide by February 2026. Haryana leads the country with approximately 5.75 lakh enrolments, followed by Bihar with 3.46 lakh beneficiaries. Furthermore, the government has utilized over ₹540.66 crore toward scheme implementation, awareness drives, and platform management since its inception.
The update highlights the government's ongoing effort to build institutional safety nets for vulnerable agricultural workers who face income volatility and physical strain in their later years. By integrating digital registration systems with equal matching contributions, PM-KMY aims to ensure dignity and social protection for elderly farmers across rural India.
