Union Minister Jitendra Singh Launches 'BIO-NIVESH' Platform to Boost Investment in Biotechnology Startups
In a major push to strengthen India's biotechnology entrepreneurship, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh launched 'BIO-NIVESH' during a high-level roundtable with biotech startups and venture investors in New Delhi on September 3, 2026. The new initiative is designed as a strategic bridge to connect early-stage biotechnology innovators with private venture capital, enabling promising scientific research to scale into viable commercial products.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh highlighted that technological innovation remains incomplete without sustainable investment, while financial investment requires continuous innovation to yield long-term returns. He emphasized that India cannot afford to be a late entrant in the upcoming biotech-driven industrial transformation, noting how earlier delays during the IT revolution had impacted the nation's growth potential.
The BIO-NIVESH platform will offer structured networking, mentorship, and investment facilitation for biotech startups across medical technology, bio-manufacturing, and agricultural biotechnology. Dr. Singh also proposed a 'Big Five in Five Years' strategy, encouraging the ecosystem to incubate and scale at least five large anchor biotech corporations that can anchor smaller regional startups. The initiative aligns with the government's broader vision of driving Viksit Bharat 2047 through deep-tech and bio-economy advancements.
