US-Iran Conflict Escalates as Tehran Targets American Bases in West Asia
Direct military confrontation between the United States and Iran has escalated into a major international crisis following an intensive exchange of airstrikes, missile barrages, and drone attacks in the Middle East. The latest wave of hostilities began when the US military launched extensive bombardment against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran, including air defense networks, radar installations, and maritime facilities near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. US officials stated the strikes were aimed at preventing Iran from deploying sea mines and targeting commercial shipping vessels along the key global energy corridor.
In response, Tehran launched retaliatory strikes utilizing ballistic missiles and attack drones against American military bases and diplomatic assets in several regional partner nations, including Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Iraq's Kurdistan region. Iranian state media confirmed the operations, characterizing them as a direct answer to US strikes on its national territory. Air defense systems in Kuwait and Jordan intercepted multiple incoming projectiles, though damage to facilities was reported across the region.
The escalating conflict has heightened international alarm over energy security, as commercial oil tanker transits through the Strait of Hormuz dropped sharply amid safety risks. Global leaders and international organizations have urged immediate diplomatic de-escalation, warning that prolonged military exchanges threaten to spark a broader regional war and further destabilize global energy markets.
