Mysuru is getting ready for its famous Dasara, the state festival that turns the city into a celebration of lights, music and tradition.
At the Amba Vilas Palace, work is under way on the illumination that covers the building in tens of thousands of bulbs every evening of the festival. The elephants that will take part in the grand Jamboo Savari procession are being trained in the city.
Hotels and homestays say bookings are picking up, as visitors from across the country plan trips around the festival's cultural programmes, food fairs and exhibitions.
Visitors are advised to use public transport and park-and-ride facilities on busy evenings and to follow traffic advisories issued during the festival.
