Andaman and Nicobar Islands celebrate Foundation Day at Sri Vijaya Puram
Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma called the islands' multicultural identity a living example of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'.
The Foundation Day of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was celebrated on November 1 at Tagore Government College of Education, Sri Vijaya Puram, in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma.
Community associations welcomed the Lieutenant Governor in their traditional attire. MP Bishnu Pada Ray recalled the islands' history under British rule and the Japanese occupation, and historian Dr. Rashida Iqbal spoke on the sacrifices of freedom fighters imprisoned there.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor stressed cultural harmony, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among the islands' communities.
