BDA hires KPMG to plan Bengaluru's tallest tower; 46 acres set aside in Kempegowda Layout
The proposed 250-metre sky deck near the new Major Arterial Road is estimated to cost Rs 600 crore and is likely to be built in a public-private partnership.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has appointed consultancy firm KPMG as transaction adviser for its proposed sky deck and has finalised 46 acres in Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout for what would be the city's tallest structure.
KPMG will prepare a concept plan covering funding, revenue sharing and other key details, for which the BDA will pay close to Rs 4 crore. A senior official said the plan is expected within a month, after which the authority will invite expressions of interest from developers.
The 250-metre tower will come up on land in Bhimankunte and Challaghatta villages, close to the newly opened Major Arterial Road linking Mysuru Road and Magadi Road. It is planned as a tourism destination with an observation deck, elevated walkways, glass-bottom viewing areas, restaurants and event spaces. The project is estimated at Rs 600 crore.
Other sites, including Hemmigepura, Bangalore University and Baiyappanahalli, were dropped because of aviation height limits. Some residents of West Bengaluru hope the project will bring jobs and commercial activity to the area, while asking that it be designed without disturbing the neighbouring layout.
