Teachers' constituency MLC Namoshi calls for faster teacher recruitment in Kalyana Karnataka
Re-elected for a fifth time, Shashil Namoshi says finance department approval is not needed to fill posts under Article 371J, and wants teachers freed from non-teaching duties.
BJP leader Shashil Namoshi, who has won the Karnataka North-East Teachers' Constituency seat in the Legislative Council for a fifth time, has urged the government to speed up recruitment of permanent teachers in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
The constituency covers all seven districts of the region. Namoshi said vacancies in government schools are a key reason the region lags in education, and that concurrence from the Finance Department is not required to fill posts because of the special status granted under Article 371J of the Constitution.
He said teachers face frequent disruptions from non-academic duties such as electoral roll revision, surveys and distributing mid-day meals, and that recording attendance through apps has become a burden. Nearly 25% of headmaster posts are vacant, he said, and he wants a full-time Additional Commissioner for the School Education Department in the Kalaburagi division.
Namoshi also said he would continue to press for the Old Pension Scheme for teachers and opposed the decision to depute PU lecturers to teach Classes 9 and 10 in government high schools.
