CISF moves to sector-specific commands to protect India's critical infrastructure
From November 1, supervision is organised by installation type, with new Power, Petroleum and Port sectors replacing territorial commands.
The Central Industrial Security Force has moved from a territorial command system to a functional, sector-based structure from November 1, with the concurrence of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Under the old system, a single Sector Headquarters could manage more than 50 units across coal mines, power plants and ports. Supervision is now organised by the type of installation, with new commands including Power-I (New Delhi), Power-II (Kolkata), Petroleum & Natural Gas (Guwahati) and West Coast and East Coast Port sectors.
The force says the change will make standard operating procedures, access control and Quick Reaction Team deployments more specialised and responsive, and help it counter emerging threats such as drones and cyberattacks.
