Glenn Maxwell retires from international cricket after 14 years, two ODI World Cups and a T20 World Cup title
Australia's big-hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, 38, has called time on his international career. He bows out with 10 international hundreds, 136 wickets and three ICC titles, including the 2023 World Cup where his unbeaten double century against Afghanistan became the stuff of legend.
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from international cricket, ending a 14-year career in which he became one of the most destructive white-ball batters of his generation. The 38-year-old last played for Australia in their final match of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, against Oman.
Maxwell played 149 ODIs, 130 T20 Internationals and seven Tests. He scored 3,990 ODI runs at a strike rate of 126.7 and 2,897 T20I runs at a strike rate of 154.4, finishing with 10 international centuries and 136 international wickets with his off-spin.
He was part of Australia's ODI World Cup-winning squads in 2015 and 2023, and won the T20 World Cup in 2021. His most famous innings came at the 2023 World Cup in Mumbai, when he struck an unbeaten double century against Afghanistan, batting through cramps to rescue a chase that had collapsed, in what is regarded as one of Australia's greatest ODI wins.
Maxwell's move leaves Australia rebuilding their white-ball middle order ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, for which the ICC says it has already received 120 million ticket requests.
