ISRO's GSLV-F18 places navigation satellite NVS-03 in orbit to strengthen NavIC
Launched from Sriharikota on October 30, NVS-03 is the third of five next-generation satellites for India's own navigation system.
The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully carried out the GSLV-F18/NVS-03 mission on October 30 at 23:51 hours from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The rocket placed the navigation satellite NVS-03 in a precise Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
The satellite's first orbit-raising manoeuvre was completed on October 31 at 16:48 hours. More manoeuvres are planned to move it to its geosynchronous slot at 111.75° East.
NVS-03 is the third in India's series of five next-generation navigation satellites and will strengthen NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation), which provides positioning, navigation and timing services used in transport tracking, precision agriculture, disaster management and telecommunications.
